We believe that the people of the world have a right to know the positive difference that Jesus Christ can make in their lives. It is our responsibility to share this Good News. Jesus said, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 2:8)

Evangelism Training

We believe it is not only important to know the truth, but to be able to communicate this truth to those who are interested. We offer classes periodically on sharing the good news of our faith.

Alpha Ministry

Alpha provides an excellent opportunity for people to enjoy a fine meal, hear an excellent presentation on what the Christian faith is all about, and join in discussion to share opinions and different points of view.

Cross-Cultural Ministries

Cross-cultural teams have been established to more effectively minister to the unique challenges faced by a given culture and to enable each to meaningfully integrate into our Church Family.

Community Impact

Community involvement is an important aspect of our lives. Many of our members are actively involved in our community and at various levels of municipal, provincial, and federal Governments. We believe that the mind and heart of Christ must be brought to bear at each level of society.
The focus of all our programs is to meet the needs of individuals and families and to communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ.

ESL

We have an active ESL Committee that provides English conversation times, instruction in ESL, and an ESL class on Sunday mornings. The committee also hosts lunches and BBQs, food preparation helps, and various day trips and outings.

Employment Readiness Program

This program is designed to assist people to obtain employment and improve their skills and to enable others to advance beyond underemployment.

Mustard Seed

Being located in the downtown core of our city means that we have contact with many street people. Some years ago the Church took this responsibility to heart and began the Mustard Seed Street Ministry in our facilities. This ministry has continued to flourish and now has taken up residence on Centre Street and 11th Avenue as a sister organization.

Summer Day Camp for Elementary and Pre-School Children

Many families with children find the summers long with few options for affordable, well-supervised programs. Our Summer Day Camp programs are designed with people like this in mind. July and August are exciting months at First Baptist for kids.

Youth Drop-In

Two nights each week, community youth are provided with a safe place to hang out, spend time with friends, make friends, play games, listen to music, and interact with Christian leaders about the tough issues of life.

Seminars and Internships

These assist the members of our Church and community to become better informed on the various issues that impact our lives. We also like to provide opportunities for young people who sense a call to a career in pastoral ministries to gain practical and profitable on-the-job training

Home Mission Group

The Home Mission Group gives special attention to the concerns of people in our community. Various projects are taken on to address these concerns.

Reaching Out to Our World

We believe that our privileged position in the world extends to us unique opportunities and responsibilities to impact our world. We believe in and are committed to world evangelism.

Youth and Adult Mission Trips

Our youth have been involved in building homes for poor families in Mexico. These experiences have helped our youth experience the joy of serving and have given them a wider worldview. Adult teams have also ministered in various countries around the world

World Mission

World Mission is an important part of our life at First Baptist. Looking beyond our immediate community, though our Canadian Baptist Ministries, we support missions in Bolivia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Angola, Kenya, Zaire, Turkey, Sri Lanka, China, Belgium, Croatia, Ukraine, and other countries as opportunities arise.

World Relief and Development

Thousands of dollars are raised each year for the vast needs around our world. Our Baptist World Relief program, known as the Sharing Way, addresses this need.
